Our expertise

I have worked as a medical microbiology scientist for over 40 years in hospitals, the community, and rest homes, seeing the reality of COVID and other emerging infectious diseases as well as seasonal influenza and other airborne viruses, colds, measles, etc.

Additionally many children and adults are badly affected by allergens causing asthma and allergies – e.g. dust mites, pollens, spores, cat/dog dander, smoke, smells and volatile organic chemicals (VOCs e.g. formaldehyde). A quality Air Purifier can make a world of difference in providing a safe environment, and helping easy breathing.

There are a number of sub-standard, high profile manufacturers making questionable marketing claims, (UV, ozones, peroxides, etc) making it difficult to determine what ‘really’ makes a quality Air Purification System. After researching a large number of Air Purifiers on the market worldwide, I endorse Oransi for high quality engineering and construction plus being extremely effective at what it was designed for – totally filtering and purifying air for your best current health and also for best longer term particulate particle removal protection.

How fast a room’s air can be filtered and sanitised is measured by the Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR). The more air renewals fully filtered per hour the better.

HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filters are the current best standard, capturing 99.9% of all particles without leaving any harmful residues.

Most Air Purifier brands sell you a lot of marketing bells and whistles. You shouldn’t need a manual - plug in, turn on and adjust the fan speed - that’s all!

Advertised noise levels are often based on low speed settings. Look for a model under 60dB on high, 60dB is talking level. N.B. CADR Air efficiency ratings are all rated with fan speeds on high.

What Are Your Main Concerns?

Allergens (pollen, pet dander, dust)

The mod is an allergen capturing machine capable of stopping 99.4% of particles from reaching your lungs. This is why those with seasonal allergies love the mod and rely on it to keep them sniffle- and itch-free year-round.

Viruses & bacteria

The coronavirus is around 0.125 microns in size (around 10x smaller than a dust particle) where the mod’s removal rate is 99.6% with each air pass.
If you’re concerned about airborne viruses and bacteria, then the mod will be the perfect addition to your home or office.

Pollution

The mod’s revolutionary 3-in-1 filter includes an active carbon layer that is highly effective against fine particles, smoke and gases (methane gas, sulfur gases, and many others.). In just a 2-hour test (the industry standard), the mod was already able to remove 88% of formaldehyde.

Mould

Mold is a type of fungi that can grow indoors and outdoors. When its spores enter our homes or buildings, it can be a real pain to deal with (and look at). The great news is that mold spores are between 4 and 20 microns in size, which is much larger than the smallest of particles the mod can capture with ease. If mold is a concern for you, then the mod will be a welcomed addition to your home or office as it captures mold spores exceptionally well.

Frequently asked questions

What is a HEPA filter and why is it so great?

HEPA  "high efficiency particulate air [filter]" –  is a type of pleated mechanical air filter. There are several grades and qualities of HEPA filter.  Oransi uses a high medical grade, highquality filter which filters down to tiny virus particle size, and everything larger.  UV light, ozones, etc are NOT required in an air purifier and are a marketing distraction and can be dangerous – HEPA filtered virus particles cannot escape the filter, soon die in hours or usually a day or so, so do not need further ‘treatment’ can produce carcinogen by-products, etc  so banned in California, and not recommended by FDA, EPA.

How often do I need to change the filter and what is the cost

The Mod and Mod Jr. have a convenient 3-in-1 combination filter that includes

1. pre-filter (cleanable metal gauze, catches carpet fluff, pet hair, etc) ,

2. medical grade HEPA filter for particles, and

3. activated carbon for smells and chemicals.

The filter life is usually 9-12 months of continuous use, about 4,500 hours. This is somewhat dependent on the particle load of the environment requiring filtration e.g. thick smoke from ongoing bush fires nearby will have many more particles to filter than seasonal pollen or virus particles. Over time, as the filter holds more particles within it, if it was not changed the number of room air changes per hour may reduce but the actual particles filtered each air pass remains the same (or potentially better). Turning the air purifier upside down and viewing the inside of the filter can give an indicative idea of filter life left – the blacker it appears the more particles it has filtered.

How hard is it to change the filter?

All air cleaners require periodic cleaning and filter replacement to function properly. Turn off and unplug the purifier. Then simply turn the purifier upside down on a non scratch surface, remove the 3-in-1 filter, clean the outer pre-filter metal gauze, and reinsert. Cleaning can be done with the brush attachment of your vacuum cleaner or wipe with a damp cloth. Cleaning your pre-filter every few months (dependent visually on pet hair, new carpet fluff, etc) can prolong the filter life and help you get the best value for your purchase.

How can I clean the outside of my purifier?

Use a clean, dry, soft cloth to wipe the external surfaces. Never use any chemical or harsh cleaners.
