Frequently Asked Questions

Oransi Air Purifiers

Where should I place my Oransi Air Purifier?

Placement of the air purifier - depending on what you primarily want the air purifier to filter:

  • if mainly for outside origin pollen, dust, chemicals and pollutants - place it anywhere in the living room space area, maybe about one third to half the way along any long wall for optimal room air purification. But if a
window needs to be open (outside pollutant entry point), place it nearer to the window to best filter the pollen, etc nearer the pollutant entry point.

  • if mainly for filtering air from internal source pollutants of concern e.g. dust mite allergens, fungal spores, pet dander, respiratory virus and other microbes (e.g. COVID, influenza, etc), smells, smoke and volatile organic compounds ('VOCs', adsorbed by Oransi’s activated carbon filter) e.g. formaldehydes, etc from paints, wall boards, synthetic carpet/coverings,
etc) the air purifier can be placed anywhere in the room space, but if an external window is open then place it further away from the opened window.
What is the relevance of ‘CADR’ and why is it such an important measurement?

Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) is the volume of air that passes through the air purifier AND is totally (99.9%) filtered every time the air in that room passes through the filter The Oransi Air Purifiers are independently rated and verified (USA Standard, CADR - Clean Air Delivery Rate) to give the rated specified room area for that the particular model of air purifier that can totally (99.9%) clean or purify the air of all particles two times per hour on high speed. The Oransi Mod totally purifies the air of 121 sq metres floor space (of a room 2.4m high) twice per hour on high. That is a room 10m x 12m by way of example, which is large - this is a high quality, high specification air purifier. A room half this size (e.g. 5m x 6m) will filter all the air four times per hour, etc.

How noisy are the Oransi Air Purifiers?

The Oransi Mod noise levels are very quiet compared to most air purifiers of this specification size coverage: 20dBA on low, 49dBA on high. The noise is an airflow related noise sound rather than a motor sound so is quite a low, relatively quiet noise rather than annoying. Unless someone with a respiratory virus infection is present - then the more air changes per hour (ACH) in that room the better - then the speed can usually be reduced to low or medium, and quieter still:

  • 'A whisper is about 30 dB, normal conversation is about 60 dB, and a motorcycle engine running is about 95 dB. Noise above 70 dB over a prolonged period of time may start to damage your hearing. Loud noise above 120 dB can cause immediate harm to your ears' CDC US Govt.
  • 55 dB is a level that describes moderate to soft sounds. In fact, it is comparable to a quiet home environment, a residential street, or a normal conversation between two people.
How often should I run my Oransi Air Purifier?

Running on ¼ speed 24/7 will generally offer you the most effective method of obtaining a perfect clean air environment ongoing.

Do Oransi Air Purifiers consume a lot of energy?

No, the power consumption on high- speed is only 82 watts, and even less on lower motor speeds.

Which size Oransi Air Purifier should I purchase?

This depends on the size of the room you wish to purify the air. To run in a bedroom the Mod jnr would be ideal but for larger spaces such as combined living and kitchen areas we would recommend the Oransi Mod. For adaptability and ‘value for money’, the Mod is significantly better value on specifications.

Are the Oransi Air Purifiers hard to maintain?

No, we recommend you consider easily removing the 3-in-1 filter unit every 3-4 months, much less often if little carpet fluff or pet dander present, and run a wet cloth or a vacuum down the ‘pre filter’ mesh to remove any excess fluff/dander. Apart from that there are no other maintenance requirements.

What warranty do you have for the air purifiers?

We offer a 10 year warranty for all our Oransi models. All other competitor products offer 6 months to, at best, 3 years warranty. Oransi use very reliable German motors. Quiet and robust, which allows the unprecedented 10 year warranty.

Oransi 3-in-1 Filters

What type of filter is in our Oransi Air Purifiers?

Oransi use a 3-in-1 filter, one price for the single combined x3 filter unit:

  • The Outer Filter is a coarse mesh designed to trap larger material such as carpet fluff and pet dander which are triggers for a number of allergies that cause asthma and respiratory ailments - this can be wiped clean with a damp cloth or vacuumed if required to prolong the fine filter life.
  • The HEPA Filter is a medical grade filter (also rated as 'MERV 17') and is independently rated to filter out all particles (99.97%) 0.3 microns (virus particle size) size and larger - plus for an unusual physics reason they are also very efficient at filtering particles much smaller than 0.1 microns. This includes influenza, Covid, measles, virus, bacteria, spores and fungi.
  • The Activated Carbon Filter is designed to remove VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) e.g. car exhaust fumes, paint fumes, formaldehyde, solvents (e.g. in synthetics), smoke, cooking smells, etc. There are many VOC's emanating from both the inside and outside environment, and the activated carbon within this 3-in-1 filter, would be expected to absorb these. Volatile Organic Compounds, including ‘air pollution’ are increasingly proven to range from harmless to many which cumulatively can damage the central nervous system, respiratory system, the kidneys and the liver.
How often does my Oransi 3-in-1 filter need replacing?

If you are running your Oransi Air Purifier 24/7 at ⅓ power you will need to replace the filter approximately every 10 - 12 months in average conditions.

How will I know when my filter needs replacing?

The digital read-out on the top of the Oransi Air Purifier has a filter change indicator light which illuminates after 4,500 hours use, this is regardless of how contaminated the air is and the motor speed used. A visual inspection of the filter will also give a good indication - the less white filter seen, and the more grey to black the filter is the nearer to replacement it is. Particle size filtration is not affected, but air flow efficiency slows with more ‘clogged’ filters.

What is the cost of replacing my Oransi 3-in-1 combined HEPA filter?

The Mod filter 3-in-1 total cost replacement is $160 and the Mod jnr $150, delivered free of charge.

Questions about Health Benefits by Using Oransi Air Purifiers Answered by our Medical Microbiology Scientist, Ben Harris

Can air purifiers help with allergies and asthma symptoms?

Yes, very dramatically - where the allergy source is external e.g. pollen, the closing the room entry point e.g. windows and external doors will filter all the spores from the internal area. For internal sourced allergies e.g. dust mites, all the airborne allergen will be filtered, but appropriate carpet cleaning, etc and barrier pillow case approaches help reduce the source of the allergen.

Do air purifiers eliminate pet dander and reduce pet allergies?

Yes, markedly from the air source, but added sensible approaches like keeping pets off chairs and vacuuming will in combination help even more.

Can air purifiers help with mould and mildew?

Fungal spores and moulds are much larger than viruses and even more easily filtered out of the air. Additionally any visible mould present is best wiped and removed with e.g. bleach. Moulds thrive in moisture, where possible additionally aerate room(s) to reduce moisture levels too.

Can Oransi Air Purifiers reduce cigarette, smoke and cooking smells?

Yes, both the HEPA filter in combination with the incorporated activated carbon filter remove all the smoke particles (about the size of a virus) and greatly reduce smells and odours.

Can Oransi Air Purifiers eliminate bacteria and viruses in the air?

Yes, the medical grade HEPA filter removes 99.9% of all viruses and bacteria every time the air within the room passes through the filter.

Questions to Ask when deciding to purchase an Air Purifier

What are the major factors I need to consider before purchasing?
  • High level of Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) - this important detail is often not mentioned, or buried in the ‘specification details’. From this air changes per hour (ACH) for a given size room can be worked out, the higher the ACH the better for respiratory virus room filtration reduction. Note, USA CADR rates are in cubic feet per minute (CFM), Asia and EU in cubic metres per hour. Online conversion rates are readily available.
  • High quality medical grade HEPA filters.
  • Operating noise levels.
  • Replacement Filter cost, noting some brands require more than 1 filter replacement (which doubles the cost, and doubles the unit lifetime operational costs.
  • Warranty - a good indicator of the Air Purifier component quality. Manufacturers know from experience when their brand starts giving trouble and set their warranty time prior to this.
Did Oransi start Manufacturing Air Purifiers as a result of the Covid pandemic?

Oransi started manufacturing over 15 years ago. The owner’s son suffered from severe asthma attacks triggered by environmental allergens. The owner then researched and designed an Air Purifier that brought significant relief for his son. Oransi was then formed and over the next 15 years continually perfected the quality, performance, design and efficacy and now produces a world wide superior Air Purifier that has won many awards.

Do competitor Air Purifiers brands offer the same claims as Oransi Models?

Many brands started producing Air Purifiers during the Covid times which limited R&D time so instead of concentrating on efficacy they produced products based on gimmicks to help sell such as ‘unnecessary bells and whistles’ such as UV, bluetooth, ionisation, etc, all requiring more componentry to have faults with no increased air filtration benefits - the most important feature of all.

Quality HEPA filters capture 99.9% of all particles; there is no need for ionisation, ozones oxidise the air we breathe - good in the stratosphere but antioxidants are required for our good health, UV etc which polarise and also oxidise particles. Humans are healthiest eating anti-oxidants, not breathing oxidants!

Quality HEPA filters essentially permanently filter out all particles at each room air change, so are also less able to land on surfaces in that room, reducing the room surface load also from otherwise settling particles.

When ionisation, ozones, UV are additionally used – there is little to no measurable benefit, more to go wrong and a number of papers cited by EPA USA raise questions about toxicities from the toxic by-products these processes release , either direct including prolonged exposure at low levels, and also from the many degradation by-products of microbes, pollen, dust, etc which can themselves be harmful and carcinogenic.

There are a number of dubious to false claims which are offered by a number of major brands.

We believe, based on excellent evidence and many awards, that Oransi Air Purifiers tick all the efficiency and quality price parameters, including on the Oransi manufacturers unprecedented 10 year replacement quality guarantee.
